Eve Close
Silken textured glazes paired with the rounded and elegantly flowing forms of birds have
often been the inspiration for my porcelain vessels and sculptural forms. I choose to make
wheel-thrown forms that are altered softly and glazed to feel like eggshells.
I am particularly drawn to vessels with a purpose, and enjoy the idea that they can be
used.
I work with Southern Ice porcelain, which I fire to a maximum of 1305 degrees Celsius.
The glazes I make are subtly coloured to retain their translucence and eggshell surface. I
often like using hollow shapes for both their reduced weight and ease of manipulation.
